Thanks

Have the Fu of Thanks

Mon May 20 13:28:20 2019

“Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.” (Cicero)

This is a short post...but I just want to say it.

Sometimes you have to say thanks to people. You think you know how this is going to go, right? Because they have done you a favour? You are in a bind, you need someone’s help and that person goes the extra mile so you say thanks. It’s that situation, right?...

No.

You should just say thanks a lot. And the more position, power, authority, call it what you want you have, the more you need to be saying thanks, thank you, ta, cheers, whatever is comfortable and feels right.

Why?

Because you just should. It is just right. It doesn’t matter that they have to do the thing you ask because they are compelled to obey for whatever reason. It doesn’t even matter if there is some cumulative remuneration for what they do.

You still need to say thanks.

You need to get used to saying it.

You do, because if you have that position you have a privilege. You can do that, you can ask and you will receive. With that privilege comes a responsibility, to understand that you can do that and people respect either you, or that position, or whatever, to do the things you ask. So give back a little and thank them for that.

Acknowledge the roles we have, however we play them out, give people regard. Give it automatically and mean it. The more you mean it, the more value it has for everyone, including yourself.
